Recipe of Tea and Scones

Ingredients

for Scones:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup raisins or currants

for Tea:

  • Loose leaf tea or tea bags (black tea is traditional)
  • Boiling water
  • Milk and sugar, to taste

Steps for Scones

Step 01: (Preheat Oven) Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

Step 02: (Prepare Dry Ingredients) In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Step 03: (Cut in Butter) Add the cold, diced butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 04: (Add Wet Ingredients) Pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined. If using raisins or currants, fold them into the dough gently.

Step 05: (Shape Scones) Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick.

Step 06: (Cut Scones) Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out scones from the dough. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 07: (Bake) Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the scones are golden brown.

Step 08: (Cool) Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack.

Steps for Tea

Step 09: (for Tea:) Bring water to a rolling boil. Preheat the teapot by swirling a small amount of boiling water inside and pouring it out.

Step 10: (Add Tea) Add loose leaf tea or tea bags to the teapot. Use about one teaspoon of loose tea or one tea bag per cup.

Step 11: (Pour Boiling Water) Pour the boiling water over the tea leaves or tea bags. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes, or longer if you prefer a stronger brew.

Step 12: (Strain or Remove Tea Bags) If using loose leaf tea, strain the leaves as you pour the tea into cups. If using tea bags, remove them.

Step 13: (Add Milk and Sugar) Customize your tea by adding milk and sugar to taste.

Step 014: (Serve) Serve the warm scones with clotted cream, jam, or lemon curd alongside a steaming cup of freshly brewed tea. This delightful combination is a time-honored tradition and perfect for a classic afternoon tea experience.
