Recipe of Shepherd’s Pie
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Step 01: (Preheat Oven) Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Step 02: (Cook Ground Meat) In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground lamb or beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Step 03: (Add Vegetables) Add the chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
Step 04: (Stir in Tomato Paste) Stir in the tomato paste and cook for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Step 05: (Create Thickening Base) Sprinkle the flour over the meat and vegetable mixture. Stir well to combine and cook for 1-2 minutes. This creates a thickening base for the filling.
Step 06: (Add Peas and Liquids) Pour in the frozen peas, beef or vegetable broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the mixture thickens.
Step 07: (Transfer to Baking Dish) Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to a baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Step 08: (Top with Mashed Potatoes) Spoon the mashed potatoes over the meat mixture, spreading them to cover the entire surface. You can use the back of a fork to create a decorative pattern on top.
Step 09: (Bake) Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Step 10: (Serve) Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot, and enjoy the comforting goodness of Shepherd’s Pie!
